BET included a dedicated Gaming Lounge at the BET Experience, marking a milestone for the silver anniversary of what it calls “Culture’s Biggest Stage.” In recognizing the ever-growing influence of gaming, especially within the Black community, this addition represented a meaningful step forward in amplifying Black gaming culture.
Cxmmunity Media proudly partnered with BET to help drive awareness and attendance for the lounge. From fashion and roller skating to hair care, sports, food, and live music, the Gaming Lounge fit seamlessly into the BET Experience capturing the full spectrum of Black culture.
As the landscape of entertainment continues to evolve, perhaps next year’s BET Awards will recognize gaming and streaming with their own categories. Time will tell, but BET Experience 2025 was undoubtedly a bold and necessary step forward.
I come from this culture. I marched in Morehouse College’s “House of Funk” Marching Band. My father marched in Southern University’s “Human Jukebox”. For us, marching bands weren’t a halftime distraction, they were the show. They’re the heartbeat of HBCU sports, and our unique approach to musical performance has been influencing broader marching culture for decades.

It’s been almost 20 years, but March Madness is set to make its long-awaited return to the gaming world.
