SZA has officially joined Vans as the brand’s Artistic Director, launching a multi-year partnership that blends her artistic vision with the footwear company’s youthful, “Off the Wall” spirit. A longtime fan of Vans, especially the Knu Skool silhouette, she will help “reimagine upcoming campaigns and co-create exclusive product collections” that reflect her style and the brand’s ethos. Her first campaign, shot by Sophie Jones, highlights her favorite Knu Skool in a monochromatic colorway. “In Vans, I feel free!” she said, adding, “They stand where I stand, and I’m honored to invite a whole bunch of people to stand Off the Wall with us.”
In her new role, SZA aims to show that “joy, community, creativity, and fashion are all still intersectional,” emphasizing humanity and cultural connection as core values. This marks her second major footwear project after two Crocs collaborations in 2022, but her personal history with Vans makes this partnership especially meaningful. “I’ve been wearing Knu Skools and other styles for years; they’ve always had an ethos I connect with,” she explained, calling the collaboration a perfect creative fit.

But I promise to keep you, the skeptical, Marvel-loving, or just cautiously optimistic reader, in mind as I explain why James Gunn’s Superman feels like the true beginning of the DCU we've all been waiting for.
